Listed below are the courses I will be offering at duCret school of art this summer. Please come and join the fun!

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at monica@monicabaumann.com. These classes are flexible and intended to be both fun and educational, FOR YOU!

Intensive Long Pose Drawing and Painting #1

duCret School of Art
Monica Baumann
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9am-4pm (with one hour break for lunch)
June 5th – 28th, 2012

This course is for motivated students of figure painting and drawing from life for the purpose of investigating nuances of strategy in working from direct observation. By means of longer poses through a comprehensive approach to the artist’s language, this will be presented to the student in an intense environment to enable each participant to learn by listening, seeing and by doing.
The instructor will lecture and demonstrate daily on the decisions concerned with early, middle and end game drawing and painting procedure in order to emphasize a grand strategy for the artist, referencing larger objectives as well as more immediate, practical concerns.
This 48 hour pose will be meticulous, demanding, and take the form of personal critiques as well as one on one demonstrations. Points of discussion (and their context) will include:
Insights into how to develop a consistent accuracy of drawing using gesture, human proportion, likeness and/or character; issues of pictorial design using shape, flattening the field, tonal harmony, simplicity, massing and organization; color as the critical element for infusing the sense of atmosphere, brush handling, the artist’s palette; anatomy as an invaluable tool using landmark, orientation, planar and theoretical construction, alignment, comparison; formulating a dynamic and dependable finishing game by understanding rhythm, light on form and perspective. These and many sub themes should provide the student with a wealth of knowledge and clear experience for future work.

Intensive Long Pose Drawing and Painting #2

duCret School of Art
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9am-4pm (with one hour break for lunch)
July 10th – August 2nd, 2012

This course is for motivated students of figure painting and drawing from life for the purpose of investigating nuances of strategy in working from direct observation.
duCret School of Art
Monica Baumann
Thursdays, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
May 31st – July 26th (July 5th break) 2012

This course has been designed for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students of drawing and painting in order to explore the human figure in long pose. The instructor will teach by demonstration lectures, presenting a series of complementary principles of drawing. Such principles, all derived from direct observation of the model, will layer upon each other and comprise a grand strategy for effective long pose figure drawing and painting. The lessons will be reinforced by personal critiques. The resulting drawing should thus provide a window into a how the student may create a more seamless approach to the classical figure.

“Civilization” a Conceptual Design Class

duCret School of Art
Monica Baumann
Wednesdays, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
May 31st – July 26th (July 5th break) 2012

This course is for students interested in learning to cultivate, harness or unleash their inner creativity. Using a series of questions and simple to complex design assignments, the student will be given the answers and tools needed to design their own civilization. Combining the students favorite historical styles, you will design everything from the buildings “your people” live into to what kind of warfare the will practice. Students will learn to use their imaginations, structured design and historical research to make their civilization a “reality”. The possibilities are endless. Bring your imagination and pencils, and see where they take you.

Hello all! As you can see, I have finally launched the shiny new Monica Baumann.com. It is basically the same as the good ol’ site, when it comes to viewing images and such. There are a few new features I’ve added for your pleasure

1. I now have a second blog! My other blog, Black Sheep Art, on Tumblr, is going to stay as it is, as a platform for upcoming shows, events and information for artists. This new blog, or “The Blog” will be more of an artist journal or diary as I move through this phase of my art life. Hopefully someone (or you) will find it interesting, possibly helpfull, in addition to it serving as something to hold me accountable to myself! And here is my first post!

2. You will find an rss feed of “Black Sheep Art” on the footer of this site, so you don’t miss ANYTHING!

3. I’ve added some new and recent works done the end of last year and the beginning of this year, YAY! There will be many more to come.

Other than that it is still the same great site it always was. Don’t forget to check out my calendar, I keep it updated with shows and competitions that seem like they are good opportunities for representational artists.

Enjoy and Happy Painting!
